Drums across Lady Bird Lake (how the movie was made) Mobile 1.m4v

Ben Livingston and his band The "That's what she said!" Boys were to debut their big show at the mighty Continental Club in Austin during the world famous SXSW music fest. Ben wanted something a little more interesting for an opening act, so he decided to make a little movie. In this movie "Capt. Unkle Sam" (Bill Oliver) would be at the helm of the good ship "SS Mark Twain" while drummer Michael Christian would play a rip roaring solo as they voyage across the great waters of Lady Bird Lake - right onto the stage... And this is a movie about how that movie was made. For more info. - www.benlivingston.com / www.beneon.com

Neon Mural #1 - Legendary Austin Landmark - By Ben Livingston and Frank Roberts

Austin, Texas - 1986, It was time to make my own art for a change. I didn't get into neon to make signs, I just had to do commercial signage because traditional training is the best way to learn this craft, so I did it the old school apprenticeship way....  I was raised around artists and theater people, that's my model. So I did this first ever conceptual, non commercial animated neon mural of a child's view of the cycle of life meeting Armageddon - my way, along with my electrical genius pal, Frank Roberts - After we beat the Statue of Liberty in the prestigious IES - IIDA international lighting competition, Frank said it best: "Hell we won an Oscar for a home movie, they ain't seen nothin' yet!" Light artist - Ben Livingston makes his neon sculpture from scratch.

"Known for his innovative neon work and the discovery of a new type of neon light, artist Ben Livingston describes his artistic process as he draws out his ideas and then twists and welds neon glass tubing in a crossfire at 1,000 degrees in one of his Austin-area studios. It's not just that Livingston dabbles in a number of different arts; it's that he pursues each one with passion and excels in it. His unique invention of a new kind of neon -- the infinite phosphorescent color palate -- won him a fellowship with the National Endowment for the Arts. His childlike animated neon sculpture, a cautionary tale about the end of the world, distracted traffic on Austin, Texas' Fifth Street for 22 years until 2008, and it beat out the Statue of Liberty to win an IES Paul Waterbury International Illuminating Design Award of Excellence. Examples of Livingston's artwork are all over Austin. They hang at the Austin Convention Center, the University of Texas Performing Arts Center and Motorola. Art collectors ranging from Lance Armstrong to Mick Jagger own his pieces. "What makes Ben different is that he thinks out of the box and the universe," said Pebbles Wadsworth, former director of the University of Texas Performing Arts Center. "He sees colors differently. He looks at problems, beauty, pain and more from a different slant, and a powerful creative force comes out of him that often I feel he has no control over. Ben has no boundaries." Video Production: Lee Reinhardt and Devin Macdonald - 2004

That's the spirit

"That's the Spirit" A song for the heroic wildfire victims of Central Texas by Ben Livingston. "This song was playing on the radio in a dream I had last night, so I paid attention to it... My only hope is that it will somehow, eventually, resonate with a sense of sublime serenity within this heroic community." God speed - Central Texas.
